Family travel

What to do with kids beyond the beach.

Seven Rabinsider-tested activities for families with children. A mix of sand, deep forest shade, and enough freedom so everyone gets a bit of a break.

Begin

Less list. More feeling.

  1. 01

    Paradise beach, Lopar

A vast sandy spit where the water stays ankle-deep for dozens of meters. Perfect for building sandcastles, and a toddler can safely run along the water's edge.

  2. 02

    Dundo forest (Kalifront)

Woodland paths without steep climbs, under the thick shade of holm oaks. Pack a picnic, find a wooden bench, and let the kids explore at their own pace.

  3. 03

    Komrčar park

A playground in the deep shade of mature pines and cypresses. While the kids climb and swing, you can sit at the café opposite for a quiet coffee.

  4. 04

    Glass-bottom boat

A short cruise on a boat with glass windows in the hull. Children are fascinated by watching the fish and seagrass pass beneath them. Leaves from the main pier.

  5. 05

    Lopar mini-train

A small tourist train that chugs from cove to cove. If you have a five-year-old, this will be more exciting than any boat trip.

  6. 06

    Mel beach, Kampor

Another sandy bay with incredibly shallow water. The perfect spot for a late afternoon visit, once the sun softens but the sand is still warm.

  7. 07

    Sweet Point pastry shop

An afternoon break for ice cream and a slice of traditional Rab cake. The kids love the sweet almond flavor, giving you ten minutes of earned peace.
