Rab's Hidden Beaches: Where the Sea Whispers Secrets
Published 2026-04-21 · 8 min read
Ciganka, Mel, Sturić, Veli Mel, Livačina — six coves most tourists never find. How to get there, what to bring and when to stay silent.
While most tourists rush to the famous Paradise Beaches in Lopar, true Rab insiders know the island hides numerous secluded coves and beaches offering peace, crystal sea and untouched nature. Rab is famous for over 30 sandy beaches – a rarity on the Croatian coast – and many are accessible only on foot, by boat or a short adventure through pine forest.
One of the most beautiful hidden ones is Ciganka Beach in Lopar. Reddish sand, pyramid-shaped dunes and a feeling of complete isolation make it a true paradise for those seeking peace. It is reached on foot or by car with parking in the pine forest, with the last 100 meters being an easy walk. Ideal for naturists, couples and those who want to be alone with the sea.
Another gem is the Mel cove – photogenic, with dramatic sunsets and shallow sea. Sturić offers two untouched sandy coves, accessible by boat or longer walk. Veli Mel and Livačina are also lesser known but equally beautiful.
Visit tip: Bring water, good shoes, sunscreen and perhaps a snorkel mask. Best time is early morning or late afternoon when the light is perfect for photos. Combine the beach with nearby archaeological trails or lunch in a konoba in Supetarska Draga.
On Rab happiness is not only on the main beach – it is in the moment you stray from the beaten path and discover your private piece of paradise. These hidden beaches remind why Rab is called the Happy Island.
