Archaeological Trails: Historical Routes on Foot
Three trails combining wild nature and forgotten ruins. Where to head when you want an escape from the sea.
The Rab Archaeological (T)races project matters because it connects the island's history with nature in the right way. Instead of closed museums, you explore history here by walking through forests and along dry stone walls. Three trails – Capo Fronte, Epario, and Frux – lead you through sites that are over three thousand years old.

For summer days, the shorter Frux trail is a good choice (6.5 km) connecting Lopar and Supetarska Draga. It passes through fertile valleys and past old dry stone walls built by island families. If you are looking for real forest shade, choose Capo Fronte (22.5 km) which goes through the Dundo forest reserve. That one is a full-day hike.
The Epario trail (10 km) in Lopar is great for families as it runs along the coast and offers beautiful views of the Velebit mountain.
Useful tip: before you set off, download the official app because some sites are hidden in the brush and easy to miss without GPS. Bring plenty of water — there are no shops or water springs along these paths.
